A Melodia do Amor I got this book as part of a buy 1 get 1 of a certain selection of titles free deal If I m honest, I was attracted to the cover That girl in that gorgeous red dress drew me in, and the synopsis seemed interested enough, so I went for it Unfortunately, the story didn t really live up to the prettiness of the cover It was good, don t get me wrong, but I think that the scope was far too large. The pace was a bit all over the place Sometimes we d get stuck in the endless drivel of some character I got this book as part of a buy 1 get 1 of a certain selection of titles free deal If I m honest, I was attracted to the cover That girl in that gorgeous red dress drew me in, and the synopsis seemed interested enough, so I went for it Unfortunately, the story didn t really live up to the prettiness of the cover It was good, don t get me wrong, but I think that the scope was far too large. The pace was a bit all over the place Sometimes we d get stuck in the endless drivel of some character s thoughts that seemed to go on and on forever At other times the really important points were just rushed through mini spoiler At one point in the story, Beth ends up pregnant But between the reader learning that she s pregnant and an accident that causes the loss of the baby, about a month and the event and its aftermath all flick by in the space of about ten pages And we re not really given the chance to feel what Beth is feeling about it, to feel what Jack is feeling about discovering that she d been pregnant and hadn t told him and that she s now in hospital, to feel what Theo is feeling about having lost the child he didn t even know was coming, to feel Sam s dispair at almost losing his sister As such, I found I was unable to feel Beth s, or anyone else s, loss I was unable to even feel sympathy for her.I was never really affected by any of the story s big tragedies because the narrative doesn t dwell on them for long enough to make these events as shattering for me as they are for the characters I feel rather disappointed by this, as had the characters been brought closer to me, I think that this would have been an excellent read Maybe it should have been split into a two book mini series That would have allowed the author to make all her comments on society, but also bring us closer to Beth As it is, the book takes place over about 8 or 9 years crammed into 500 pages and it s just too much Things whizz past before you even have the time to realise they re happening and I didn t like that.It must be said that the author obviously did a lot of research for this book She even went up to Alaska and walked the trail that the characters would be walking in the book Her passion for history can be seen in every page, it is very clear and I liked that I learnt little bits from the book. The author set up a foundation for strong women , or something of the sort, and she writes books about such women I just wish she d given Beth the strength to give Theo the boot rather than putting up with all the horrible stuff her puts her through.I really wanted to like this book and I think that had it been written in a different style this could well have become one of my favourite books As it is, I enjoyed it but I didn t overly like it Gypsy was certainly an interesting and exciting book, describing the gritty streets of New York and the life of the characters in a vivid and realistic way. And now I ve finished every Lesley Pearse book Dreaded this day Spaced them out over a few years But done Over. I really enjoyed this book, it s full of emotions 4.5 stars Wow What a journey that was for herI really love this type of gritty, realistic historical romance Again, Lesley Pearse has left me wanting. It feels wrong to say this was a fun read because it does have it s share of tragedies and bad times but what I mean by that is I could just allow myself to get carried away by the story and there weren t any deep or troubling issues to contemplate It s emotional in places but nothing too taxing Beth is born and raised in Liverpool, England with her brother Sam Tragedy strikes and they are forced to grow up fast and fend for themselves.Sam dreams of riches and he and Beth save up for a ticke It feels wrong to say this was a fun read because it does have it s share of tragedies and bad times but what I mean by that is I could just allow myself to get carried away by the story and there weren t any deep or troubling issues to contemplate It s emotional in places but nothing too taxing Beth is born and raised in Liverpool, England with her brother Sam Tragedy strikes and they are forced to grow up fast and fend for themselves.Sam dreams of riches and he and Beth save up for a ticket to go to America to make their fortune and forget their troubled past Written from Beth s POV we follow their adventures in America and Canada There are good times and bad times and plenty of different characters to meet.Being easy to follow and fairly light this book worked really well in audio format and was narrated beautifully by Judith Boyd who has an interesting array of accents My only gripe is that Beth is a bit of a wet fish and I think if I d read the book instead of listening she would have really annoyed me as it happened I just tuned out for a bit when she was being stupid or whiny Overall this is an interesting story with good pace and a bit of romance Liverpool,Os sonhos de Beth s o desfeitos quando ela, o irm o Sam e a irm mais nova, Molly, ficam rf os As suas vidas, at ent o tranquilas e seguras, sofrem uma dram tica reviravolta Para escapar a um futuro de mis ria e servid o, Sam e Beth decidem arriscar tudo, atravessar o Atl ntico e partir conquista do sonho americano Mas Molly demasiado pequena para os acompanhar e os irm os v em se obrigados a tomar uma decis o que os marcar para sempre deix la em Inglaterra, a cargo de uma fam lia adoptiva A bordo do navio para Nova Iorque n o faltam vigaristas e trapaceiros, mas o talento de Beth com o violino conquista lhe a alcunha de Cigana, a amizade de Theo, um carism tico jogador de cartas, e do perspicaz Jack Juntos, os jovens v o come ar de novo num pa s onde todos os sonhos s o poss veis Para a rom ntica Beth, esta ser a maior aventura da sua vida Conseguir a Cigana voltar a encontrar um verdadeiro lar Uma hist ria de amor incondicional e coragem sem limites Um livro irresist vel, da autora de Nunca me Esque as, Procuro te e Segue o Cora o A Melodia do Amor de Lesley Pearse [PDF / Epub] ❤ The End (The 30-Day Collective Book 1) ✅ Ellen A. I am normally a fantasy girl, so reading a pure romance was a little outside my comfort zone but I was sitting in Wellington Airport with nothing to do for two hours and it honestly looked like the most interesting thing on the shelf that wouldn t make me think too hard.By the time I got home, I was half way through and really coming to admire the young protagonist, Beth I have, of course, read the odd Mills and Boon before and my expectations were not high, but Beth is a feisty and determi I am normally a fantasy girl, so reading a pure romance was a little outside my comfort zone but I was sitting in Wellington Airport with nothing to do for two hours and it honestly looked like the most interesting thing on the shelf that wouldn t make me think too hard.By the time I got home, I was half way through and really coming to admire the young protagonist, Beth I have, of course, read the odd Mills and Boon before and my expectations were not high, but Beth is a feisty and determined girl who survivesthan one bad relationship to realize she doesn t need anyone but herself Finding the perfect guy at the end was sort of an afterthought though of course he had been desperately in love with her since page thirty.Gypsy taught me a lot about turn of the century America and the last big Gold Rush up to Alaska Lesley Pearse definitely did her research She even travelled the route her characters would have taken and spent time in the old gold mining towns.Given that I had no expectations, this book was a wonderful surprise Beth s fiddle playing charmed me and her story made me open to learning the history of a place I would otherwise have found incredibly dull I conclude that even for those not interested in romance, Gypsy is a really descent read Such a wonderful, moving story And eventhan the plot itself, the amazing character of one young woman who despite are the hardships and trials life threw at here, she came out triumphant and independent The author delves into human nature, especially when it comes to the difference between genders, and explicitly shows what female vulnerability can lead to, in this case the break up of one loving family The main female character at first appears to be following her mother s footsteps, b Such a wonderful, moving story And eventhan the plot itself, the amazing character of one young woman who despite are the hardships and trials life threw at here, she came out triumphant and independent The author delves into human nature, especially when it comes to the difference between genders, and explicitly shows what female vulnerability can lead to, in this case the break up of one loving family The main female character at first appears to be following her mother s footsteps, but all this is changed at the end where she shows her true spirit and courage A must read book

About the Author: Lesley Pearse

Lesley Pearse is one of the UK s best loved novelists with fans across the globe and sales of over 2 million copies of her books to date A true storyteller and a master of gripping storylines that keep the reader hooked from beginning to end, Pearse introduces you to characters that it is impossible not to care about or forget There is no formula to her books or easily defined genre Whether crime as in Till We Meet Again , historical adventure like Never Look Back , or the passionately emotive Trust Me , based on the true life scandal of British child migrants sent to Australia in the post war period, she engages the reader completely.Truth is often stranger than fiction and Lesley s life has been as packed with drama as her books She was three when her mother died under tragic circumstances Her father was away at sea and it was only when a neighbour saw Lesley and her brother playing outside without coats on that suspicion was aroused their mother had been dead for some time With her father in the Royal Marines, Lesley and her older brother spent three years in grim orphanages before her father remarried a veritable dragon of an ex army nurse and Lesley and her older brother were brought home again, to be joined by two other children who were later adopted by her father and stepmother, and a continuing stream of foster children The impact of constant change and uncertainty in Lesley s early years is reflected in one of the recurring themes in her books what happens to those who are emotionally damaged as children It was an extraordinary childhood and in all her books, Lesley has skilfully married the pain and unhappiness of her early experiences with a unique gift for storytelling.
