Age of Deception (The Firebird Chronicles #2) I had a lot of worries about whether this book would live up to its predecessor, which I thoroughly enjoyed and have reread numerous times since it s release Short answer OMG YES I really should have made different life choices Medium length answer this is a thoughtfully done yet still action packed, because, let s face it, this is Kira exploration of Kira s past and how it s formed her, good and bad Plus, of everyone s favorite sarcastic not a drone, Finn being stoic, Tuann political shenanigans, Tsavitee maneuvering, and, oh, we finally get to see Kira on a waveboard Long answer full review to come after I ve stopped alternately squeeing gleefully and cursing the cliffhanger ending. Love This Book I can t begin to explain exactly how much I love this series I ve read other series by this author and loved them all, and though this series goes in a different direction genre wise it still checks all my boxes for a 5 read. This is the second book in the series and it s superb It s expertly crafted to keep the reader on the edge of their seat with each turn of the page I literally could not stop reading this book after I downloaded it I was wandering round the house with my kindle in hand, only putting it down when absolutely necessary.Kira was all set to go back to her life when she found out that being freed from House Luatha, didn t mean she was free of the Tuann Apparently, being freed of ties to Luatha meant she was free to be claimed by her father s house, Roake As she hadn t formally resigned and had that resignation accepted by the armed forces she was once again put into a position of being a bargaining chip When she tried to force the issue she was met with a firm resistance.Forced to journey to the home of House Roake, she was given a choice as to whether to accept the orders of her House as to what her role should be, or whether she would become an initiate in the warrior training program Roake ran If she did that when she became a full fledged warrior she would be able to negotiate freedom and hopefully get back off planet and back to some sort of life.Kira is a skilled fighter, gifted leader and has unparalleled instincts She fights her way through the training, in her own unique way and causes ripples along the way Her interactions with the other trainees and even the warriors that surround Graydon, the Face of the Emperor, are interesting as she tries to hold herself back from being engaged with them, but she can t seem to help herself Her uncle is distant, which leaves her free to just be a trainee.Kira is a complex and challenging character who confuses and alienates those around her Her many secrets, and those that she keeps for others, force her to push others away because she can t explain herself to them All the way through this book we have tiny little hints dropped as to her secrets and what they might be, but the author keeps the information close to their chest. The budding romance between Kira and Graydon is a lot of fun They thrive on fighting and challenging each other, a with a sense of play and lightness that we don t see in Kira anywhere else I like that it s a long dance between them and though there are some kisses, their connection is emotional rather than physical up to this point Which isn t surprising given her secretive nature and need to protect herself from emotional entanglements.I loved every page of this book, but I wish I d waiting a bit longer to read it, rather than on the day it was published It s going to be a long wait until the next book in the series is going to be released, and that is going drive me nuts This is an ARC ReviewThe story is full of action and mystery It continues from the first book and Kira goes on a journey through House Roake, her father s house The book delves into her past, and some unanswered questions and shocking secrets of the lost children in the sorrowing are unveiled in this book Kira goes through many trials in her effort to heal her broken body while trying to stay alive from the betrayer s of House Roake I suggest you read this book if you want cute romantic scenes of Kira and Graydon That was a twisty turny EPIC story I can t wait a year for another book 5 holy fuck I did not see that coming stars. Note I received an ARC for an honest review I have been anticipating Age of Deception since the moment I finished Rules of Redemption last year Rereading Rules of Redemption over, and over and over only heightened my anticipation, and my worry I loved Rules of Redemption I loved Kira, Jin, Graydon, and literally almost every other character The writing was beautiful, the characters were magnificent, and the plot drew me in right away Needless to say, it was love at first read So, after my months of pinning, I was worried that Age of Deception would be much less than my expectations This will teach me to not underestimate T.A White because Age of Deception DID NOT DISAPPOINT One hundred percent 4.5 5 stars I laughed, I cried, I laughed some and I feel even in love with Kira s story If you are worried that you will be disappointed, don t be White stays true to her characters and creates an even interesting and developed plot.Age of Deception picks up where Rules of Redemption left off Spoiler Alert for those who have not read Rules of Redemption, although I don t know why you would be reading this review Graydon pulling a fast one on Kira and shifting her house from House Luatha to House Roarke The focus of the rest of the book takes place within House Roarke where we learn even about the Tuann world Well known characters from the first book make an appearance with Kira on this new adventure of growth and understanding. If I had to characterize the gist of Age of Deception, I would say character development and growth Throughout the book you see of Kira, mentally, emotionally, and even relationally If the first book set the scene, this book dug into development and fleshing out the story Through learning about Kira, we discover deeper elements of her story that were left a mystery in book one The book also introduces new characters that are detailed and naturally relatable, while still holding on to important ones like Jin and Graydon Age of Deception might be a little bit of a slower read, but it offers so much in little details that reading it multiple times will be necessary of course I devoured this book I loved the banter between Kira and Jin, the new Tuann information, and the relationship between Kira and Graydon Kira drew me in in the first book because of sarcasm, wit, and overall personality Her growth in the second book has been beautiful to read about I absolutely can not wait for the third book as T A White sure knows how to throw a cliffhanger All in all, a wonderful sequel to Rules of Redemption that I can not wait to read again Loved it Very slow on the romance, and very strong with the story and characters and action Spoilers ahead Notes on how this book ended so I can remind myself whenever book 3 comes out Turn back now Okay, so Kira is awesome Graydon is the emperors right hand and is totally in love with Kira, but hasn t admitted it They ve just shared some stolen, passionate kisses Kira is way too damaged from her 90 years of past to let anyone else in, so while she s definitely attracted, she won t let it be than that Jin is a childhood friend who was killed early on and somehow his soul bonded to that of a small drone I imagine about the size of a soccer ball No one knows he s than an extremely sophisticated AI The Tuann don t like AI, so he s not allowed on Roake, but he snuck in anyways In the end, everyone learned of his presence, and Graydon figured out that he s actually a person, and probably also knows he s Tuann, and one of the stolen children from their past stolen the same time Kira was Right at the end, Kira and Raider snuck off to find her ship that had somehow left the space station she left it at and found its way to Roake Inside she finds her niece Of course, at that moment, Graydon and her uncle the Overloard of Roake step on board as well Seems she didn t sneak out undetected like she thought Kira reveals that the child is actually Raider s daughter Her mother is Elise, whom everyone believes to be dead Elise was also a stolen Tuann child who later served in the military with Kira and was thought to have died We know from Odin some mysterious asexual alien that Elise was actually captured by their enemy at the time of her death this was a decade or two ago , but she s since been spotted out and about So either she escaped or she s been brainwashed and the enemy is using her Also, the Tuann are extremely long lived, so whole Raiders daughter looks young, she s probably 10 20 years older There s also some odd history between the Tuann, the enemy race and an older race that the Tuann used to be slaves to thousands of years ago The older race is believed to be long gone, but Kira knows they re not, because they oversaw the camp where she was tortured as a kid The Roake are starting to suspect they re still active due to recent events and hints from Kira Also Kira is now an apprentice to Wren and when he was nearly dying, she let slip that he daughter wasn t actually dead and that he had some thing to live for I think Elise is his daughter, making Raiders daughter his grandchild This is either all about to get very complicated, or much easier as a lot of secrets are coming out and could either push people apart or pull them together. goWhen I read a really good book compared to average ones it completely sucks me into its universe and I am in a happy excited state while reading the book This new book of T.A.White achieved that again It made me laugh out loud, feel sorry and squeal with excitement I want moooooooooore 4,5 5 starsTo prepare for part two I reread the first book, which was good because the second one picks up right where the previous one ended The story takes us further into the world of Tuann this time House Roarke, which gives a completely other impression than House Luatha With Kira together we learn about their customs, society and history Well known characters from Part one accompany Kira into this new world This is a big part why I loved the book the characters They feel so alive and realistic with all their own traits, quirks and history I have to say I absolutely adore Kira with her companion Jin Their banter and relationship is just priceless and made me laugh quite often Through the whole book we learn about her and a lot of the other loveable characters, we got to know in book one New characters are being introduced and I felt like the focus of the novel lays heavily on the characterdevelopment Ofc Kira and Graydon also get their time together There we re so many small pieces of information in total that I def have to reread it, to get it all And not only about our characters but the whole plot behind everything.Overall it felt slowpaced than book one and the only down side was that in the end I missed the big action from book one Even though I have to say, we do get action all throughout the story just not the big scale as in the end of book one But combined with the new insights we gain I cannot really complain well except that I really want pages haha Now that I m done it feels like the author laid out the stage for something bigger and I cannot wait for book three 3 3.5 4 stars Dude I m so freaking lost I am honestly not sure exactly what to give as a review The story went fast, then drug on and on, and then of course the last two chapters went extremely fast That isn t really the problem, the problem or source of my confusion was Kira What the ever loving hell is with the tidbits of her story slapping us in the face I am so fucking lost in the sauce right now I will probably have to read this story again With everything coming out the way it is really she didn t know she was Tuann I have to call a certain amount of bullshit on that I will say the constant Kira bashing is getting tedious, she did how many years of service and that still isn t enough I get with all her secrets and deception, she feels all guilty blah, blah, blah but really Just keep sitting there and let multiple people walk all over you I think that is a constant irritant for me in this story I understand why she kind of lets them do it but she is constantly being used as a tool by people over and over again and she is just supposed to sit there and take it throws up hands WHY I know this review doesn t make much sense, does it I am giving you lots of information, but it doesn t fit completely together DOES IT Yeah, that is how this book felt for me Like the author was partly writing stream of consciousness, part background information dump, part repetitive information for previous book, and FINALLY part new information Don t get me wrong, I love T A White s books I love the strong heroine s she paints and her stories, but this book just has my feelings jumbled I liked the story, but at the same time it fell short of my expectations I guess I just feel like the story really didn t make that much progress It is definitely something you have read for yourself and you can t read this book out of order Good Luck p Rating 5.0Wow 5 impressive stars for this second addition to the Firebird Chronicles Series Kira is immediately becoming one of my most favorite female main characters of all times She s not one of those characters that have a short fuse or is all attitude proving that they re a badass or whatever I hate main characters that are like that I don t know why you have to be hot tempered or bitchy in order to be a badass but that s the trend I m seeing in any action packed book starring a female character and quite frankly, it s annoying She s secretive, witty, does have a temper but is way too calm and focus on her goals to let it get the best of her unless someone really pushes it, then she completely loses it She kicks ass and has a heart of gold She s all of these and and I just love her so much Jin is quickly becoming my second most favorite in this series I absolutely love his antics, schemes, drama, and the bickering He can be so dramatic at times it s too funny We also get to meet Odin, the mystery person that has been helping Kira with the Tsavitees and other new characters in House Roake There are some questions and secrets from the first that have been answered in this book, only to reveal secrets and questions that need answering mostly from Kira, cause there seems to be alot that she s not telling, and it s keeping everyone, including the me, in suspense. The big reveal at the end is making me really excited for the next book and I just hope TA White won t leave us waiting years for the next book I felt like I was waiting for forever for this book

About the Author: T.A. White

Writing is my first love Even before I could read or put coherent sentences down on paper, I would beg the older kids to team up with me for the purpose of crafting ghost stories to share with our friends This first writing partnership came to a tragic end when my coauthor decided to quit a day later, and I threw my cookies at her head Today, I stick with solo writing, telling the stories that
